if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
  • Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
  • Take naps.
  • Stretch before rising.
  • Run, romp, and play daily.
  • Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
  • Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
  • On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
  • On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
  • When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
  • Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
  • Be loyal.
  • Never pretend to be something you’re not.
  • If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
  • When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

Reunited with this song following it’s use in the opening ceremonies at Vancouver…
Rows and flows of angel hair, and icecream castles in the air, and feathered canyons everywhere,
I’ve looked at clouds that way,
but now they only block the sun.
They rain and snow on everyone.
So many things I would have done, but clouds got in my way.

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now,
from up and down, and still somehow,
it’s clouds illusions I recal.
I really don’t know clouds…at all.

Moons and Junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel
as every fairy tale comes real; I’ve looked at love that way.
But now it’s just another show. You leave ‘em laughing when you go
and if you care, don’t let them know, don’t give yourself away.

I’ve looked at love from both sides now,
from give and take, and still somehow
it’s love’s illusions I recall.
I really don’t know love at all.

Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say “I love you” right out loud,
dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I’ve looked at life that way.
But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads,
they say I’ve changed.
Something’s lost but something’s gained in living every day.

I’ve looked at life from both sides now,
from win and lose, and still somehow
it’s life’s illusions I recall.
I really don’t know life at all.

Really quite beautiful lyrics.

Church in Doha

We went to church on Friday(the muslum holy day). Found some people who went to a church here and they invited us to come along. It was good to get together with others in a like faith. They hold church in a villa in the north end of town, and there are a few diferent faiths that practice there. Kind of a multi-faith based building. After church, we went out with about 30 other members to Chili’s to be able to sit and chat with everyone. It was cool tositthere, and in the start of the service,if you are new, they ask you to stand up and say what your names are, where you are from, and why you are here. We were form Canada, there was acouple form kansas, a lady from south africa, a couple from singapore.

It was amazing to hear all the different countries represented, knowing that all these people were going through what we were dealing with.  It was no faith community, but it was good.
