Party Day…

1 comment

Today is Thomas’ birthday party. he isn’t actually 3 till tomorrow, but today is the day we are celebrating it. We have invited a few friends over to help celebrate. Thomas seems to be pretty excited, but I am not entirely sure he’s away he is about to get some loot… Daniel is a wee bit put off cause so much focus is on thomas today, and not him… but he’s doing ok…
So far, we have had a huge wrestling match, built a marble track, and as soon as I am done this post, I am going to go cook lunch (grilled cheese with ketchup) and we are going to sit in front of the tv and watch veggie tales.

anyways… watch for pictures to be uploaded either today or tomorrow…

We had a few parties to attend this weekend.

On thursday night(our friday night) it was lewis’ 5th birthday party, the schellenberg clan went over to the macdonald clan’s compound for a roaring party. we played there ate yummy burgers(Jen’s!) had chips, beer coolers, etc. Really yummy. friday night I had a girl I met at work over for dinner, She and her husband Nicholas came for steaks.

Nick is a fantastic photographer, so watch jen’s facebook page for the new images being posted. Nick also helped me with some of the issues I was having with coooking on a charcoal grill. Seems that I suffer from the same issue as I do in other aspects of married life, I just want to rush right to the end, not let the coals warm up… Nick explained that coals are like a fine woman, they need to be warmed up, stoked before they will cook you dinner. if you don’t , everything just burns. Good words to live by I thought.

Tonight we had craig and Amanda over for dinner. Jen did burgers again, and I used the grill… I might be getting the hang of it finally.  The company was great, the burgers were great… Lots of fun.

I’m feeling proud of myself.  Ryan has been bugging me to cut his hair.  Which I have never done before (for anyone). Getting your haircut in Qatar is extremely expensive.  It cost me 215QR to get the kids hair cut… about $60 canadian.  So we bought a cheap clipper and I got out my sewing scissors and I started cutting.  Ryan’s turned out pretty good for my first try.  Thomas’ was good considering he doesn’t sit still… but Daniel’s… I did good!!!!

We caved… sausages arrived on my doorstep the other day. they were completely unlabeled, but since this is Qatar, we knew there was NO way there was pork inside. Generally, we shy away from eating things found on our doorstep, but this is Qatar, and things more unusual that that happen here… Anyways…

it’s 44 degrees out today, so I cracked open a non-alcoholic cider and went out back. Jen was drinking a diet coke and non-alcoholic Amaretto and we fired up the barbecue.
Jen made burgers for the boys, and Jen and I put this unusual meat gift onto the grill…
There must of been some mesquites in those bricks I was using, cause a beautiful sweet aroma lept from the grill…

Long story short… those were awesome sausages. The couple that dropped them off went completely above and beyond… Thanks M&S&A .oh, and Sally.

I wish this was mine. Read this today… it stopped me for a few minutes. Hopefully it does the same to you.

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
‘Oh excuse me please’ was my reply.

He said, ‘Please excuse me too;
I wasn’t watching for you.’

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
‘Move out of the way,’ I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn’t realize how harshly I’d spoken..

While I lay awake in bed,
God’s still small voice came to me and said,

‘While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,

You’ll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you neer saw the tears that filled his little eyes.’

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
‘Wake up, little one, wake up,’ I said.

‘Are these the flowers you picked for me?’
He smiled, ‘I found ‘em, out by the tree.

I picked ‘em because they’re pretty like you.
I knew you’d like ‘em, especially the blue.’

I said, ‘Son, I’m very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn’t have yelled at you that way.’
He said, ‘Oh, Mom, that’s okay.
I love you anyway.’

I said, ‘Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue.’

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days.

But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don’t you think? So what is behind the story?
