San Antonio

Hey… I am in san antonio. I am at the NECC conference. I was traveling for 30 hours yesterday… crazy times.

One really cool thing about the trip was that as I left chicago, the sun was just setting. We chase the sunset from Chicago to san antonio for about 20 minutes… it was cool to see the sunset for so long. Really neat.

The flights were cool. I had one Qatar Airways flight and 2 united flights. all in all, it was good. I got here at 12 local time and in an hour, I was geting ready for bed…

I woke up this morning and went for a walk on the riverwalk. That path is cool… It is a walk way along a canal that meanders around the town. I had a mexican breakfast at a restaraunt at market square… I have a very hard time beleiving that th mexicans actually  eat for breakfast, what I ate today. Spicey eggs.. totrillias, salsa, cheese… yah. just weird… spicy before lunch.

I have a course tomorrow  videoconferencing in he classroom… then we have the keynote on Sunday and things get going…

I’ll let you knwo how it goes…

I had a friend pop over from Canada. He is here to see if he’d be interested in joining this adventure in one of it’s branches. He’d be working at a different company, but with the same common goal. Great guy, Smart, Fun. We went out to dinner last night and I had a fillet. Baseball sized Fillet. it was good… I had it rare. served with burnoose sauce, mashed potatoes and I asked fro some sauteed mushrooms on top. Frickin awesome piece of meat(the steak, not the guy) anyways, finished off the meal with a cappuccino and some ice cream got home, called the family and went to bed around 11… I woke up at 3:30 with the meat mares… That term is fairly new to me, but boy is it appropriate. I was sweating, tossing and turning, tore the bed apart. and I was alone in the bed! Yah… weird stuff. I got out of bed, remade the bed, had some water and then fell back asleep about an hour later… Weird times though.

We spent yesterday morning at a resort pool. Some friends were in town, and leaving that day so we decided to hang out for the morning at their place. It was really nice. We had some friends over for dinenr last night. Work colleagues. It was great, they showed up at 5:00 and took off at 9. The kicker was how we had to ask them to leave. At 9, our kids are getting kinda antsy and in their defense, we have kinda neglected them cause we are chatting all evening. So I go upstairs and put the magic school bus on so they can cool down and watch some tv before bed. Anyways. I come down and scoop up thomas and call big D over, and we head upstairs. All’s great till 3 steps from the top, and I trip.
We all come tumbling hard onto the marble stairs. Thomas gets a nice bruise on his back, but calms down pretty easily with some snuggles. It’s Daniel that took the hardest hit. He cracked his head on the edge of a stair and I watched his head bounce off the edge. He seemed ok at first, then the pain set in. He started crying and I noticed his fingers were wet with blood, He had opened up a 10 mm by 5 mm hole right in the center of the back of his head…
It’s gross how much blood head wounds spill. We applied pressure, and debated taking him to the hospital for stitches. In the end, we decided against it, He was calming down, it was late and the blood had stopped. The wound was also clean. He really seemed ok and he really wasn’t interested in the visit to the hospital. We fired advil and tylenol into him.
He slept with us last night, and we woke him up in the night a few times, asked him how he was feeling, everything seemed ok. Besides, chicks dig scars.

This morning we had another pool party arranged, and we went to that. Daniel and Thomas loved splashing around in the pool, hanging with friends and playing. It was great to see that even with a hole in his head, he is still a kid, laughing and playing. I am worried for him, but he’s ok.

We take off from there, stop off at subway for a foot long sub split 4 ways and as a treat(cause dad is still feeling bad), grab a dozen krispy kreme doghuts. I hit up the LCBO and are heading home when whammo. We are rear-ended. A little mazda has just slammed into the back of us. We were at a round about, and were stopped, I had seen this guy driving kinda erratically behind me before, and he had passengers getting in and out of the car. So the driving is crazy here… No one was hurt, and we do get to see how the machine that is law enforcement in Doha operates.
I called 999(no 911 here) and in about 8 minutes, we had a patrol officer here. He took my information(the other driver had forgotten his licence today) and we made arrangements to meet up at he station at 7 pm. It’s now 3:30, so I’ll have to let you know how the rest of this experience goes.
Again, we are all safe, it’s just been a pretty smashup- bang up weekend.
