A Bit of a rant here. One of the status symbols of being in Doha is having the best phone out there… first it was the I phone, then over to blackberry, back to I phone… I am currently using the Nokia E-71. There is a lot of technology floating around. I had a sort of epiphany yesterday while talking to a fellow geek, everything is compared to the I phone. Apple has set the standard to which all others(currently) are compared. I see it in the technology articles, I see i in the consumer magazines. Even if the newest models have “better touch screens” than the I phone, Apple is still getting market push from creating such a sexy (Yah, I said it) piece of equipment. Looks like everyone else is starting with a platform and creating services to work on it. Apple started with a service, and said, what do we want this here device to do. fan-boy? Yah, maybe. Go buy one and you be the judge.
So. I’m doing laundry. Cause that’s pseudo-important when you are a single guy. I am washing the sheets and I see an extra comforter laying there… the wheels start spinning. I have been looking for an under pad for the bed, something to give it an extra little bit of cushion and something to mute the spring that digs into my spine. There is that comforter again… I tun the bed into a comforter sandwich, with a mattress, then a comforter, then a sheet, than another sheet, then a comforter. Only thing left is the filling. And I am happy to play the part. Reading in bed, sleeping is all so much more enjoyable in a comforter sandwich. Everyone should try it!
ok… so a bit geeky. I have been playing with multicast streaming for about 12 hours now… I wanted a way to stream music over the network, from my Linux server, to clients all over the house. The thought is that it is nice to be able to walk from room to room and have a constant musical experience, not necessarily having different songs played at different times all over the place. SO… using VLC, and some command line know how, it works… It wasn’t till just now that I realize that my choice of testing music is slightly questionable. Seems the play list I have been using for all my testing for the last 12 hours… Yah, Neil Diamond – Hot august nights circa 1986.
Don’t judge me, Neil ROCKS!
I toured the Student center today. It is a new building at QF. While we were there, they were bringing up a giant monument in the middle of a court yard. a huge glass sculpture that was raised in front of my eyes… Quite the experience. It was a monumental erection… What were you thiking I was going to write about?
ok… now I know I have been alone for a long time, but this is the coolest thing ever. I just got Nikon’s Creative lighting system to work with a new flash I acquired… the Sb-600. My d-70 will control the flash and allow it to fire remotely from the camera. Now, I know that this doesn’t make much sence to a lot of you, but the opportunities this provides are remarkable… harsh lighting, soft lighting, creative shadows. I swear this is like a new toy! anyways… I am off to photograph “stuff”
